PresbyMAX LASIK
Correction of Presbyopia and Accompanying Ametropia
Key Features
- Minimally Invasive Procedure:
PresbyMAX is a surface-based treatment targeting the cornea. The procedure is quick, with the laser ablation lasting only a few seconds.
- Sharp Vision at All Distances:
The goal is to achieve glasses-free vision for everyday tasks. PresbyMAX has a broad treatment range, allowing for simultaneous correction of presbyopia, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. Fast Recovery and Improved
- Visual Quality:
Visual acuity, especially for near vision, is regained rapidly after the procedure, providing enhanced quality of vision across all distances.
Procedure
With PresbyMAX LASIK, monovision is combined with the principle of multifocal lenses:
One eye (usually the dominant one) is balanced for the distance and, thanks to the multifocal effect, also sees clearly in the middle area (approx. 60 cm). The other eye is corrected to the middle area (approx. 60 cm) and can also see sharply up close (approx. 30 cm) thanks to the multifocal effect.
Both eyes together therefore see clearly at distance and near. If you compare the individual eyes, one sees a little better in the distance and the other a little better up close.
Visual acuity typically occurs quickly, especially at close range. Adjusting to the new visual sensation usually takes a little longer than after conventional LASIK treatment..
Who is Suitable for PresbyMAX?
PresbyMAX is an ideal procedure for:
- Patients exclusively affected by presbyopia who wish to eliminate their dependence on reading glasses.
- Presbyopia patients with additional refractive errors such as myopia, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
- Presbyopic patients with prior laser treatment aimed at optimal distance vision, especially if they had positive outcomes from the initial procedure.
- Presbyopic patients post-cataract surgery who now desire to read without the need for visual aids.
Development of Visual Acuity After PresbyMAX
The primary goal of PresbyMAX is to achieve glasses-free vision for most everyday activities.
Many patients can read a newspaper without glasses just a few hours after the procedure.
Clear vision at medium and long distances typically develops within a week. Full improvement in vision quality and complete adaptation to multifocal vision usually occur over several weeks.
In low-light conditions, glasses may still be helpful for reading or distance vision.
If presbyopia progresses after the treatment, resulting in the need for reading glasses again, a repeat procedure may be an option. This decision will be made by your surgeon following a detailed examination.
How Is PresbyMAX Different from Other Presbyopia Correction Procedures?
While Monovision LASIK usually treats one eye for sharp distance vision and the other eye for sharp near vision, the PresbyMAX procedure uses special ablation profiles to create multiple focal points in both eyes.
Similar to the principle of multifocal lenses, several precisely calculated focal points are created in both eyes. The treatment is carried out entirely on the cornea and the sensitive lens of the eye is not touched.
Treatment costs
The treatment costs for vision correction surgery are generally not reimbursed by the statutory health insurance. This also applies to the initial (pre-op) consultation and follow up exams after the procedure. The treatment is billed according to the doctor's fee schedule (GOÄ).
